Napa-Coombsville – Cobbly Loam atop Volcanic Ash

Coombsville was birthed by a caldera, a fact evidenced by a massive deposit of volcanic ash that characterizes much of the area. The ash is infused and overlaid with cobblestone strewn alluvial deposits containing basalt and lava rock. The ash layer can be monolithic in depth - well over 40 feet has been observed in some locations.
