A few million years ago, this part of Russian River Valley was a shallow inland sea – that left behind the characteristic sandy deposits known as Goldridge. A shovel of this well drained, sandy soil leads one to imagine an ancient beach at this very site. Soil depth matters as these soils will allow vines to mine as deep as allowed – unless restricted by underlying clay or rock.
